My first entry

Well here we are - what seems to be in the middle of nowhere in an undiscovered land - the land of blog. Who knows where this college thing will send us next - maybe the land of twitter?!?

As you all learn about me (some of which will probably send you screaming into the streets) I have a very bizarre sense of humor. Now I will be the first to admit that at times this is good, but trust me when I say you can also get your tail into a lot of hot water (good on a winter day - summer not so much)!!!

Well I will close now I hope to hear from all of you soon.

  1. Well here we are again. This weekend was rough. My daughter, her 2 boys (Adam 11 & Steven 17) and her 3 grandsons (Roger 9, Devan 5 & Junior 3 months) were over for the weekend. A little close quarters for a tiny 1 bedroom apartment. In general we had a good time I just didn't get any school work study done but all is good I finished it up yesterday and today.

  2. Well just in case anyone is interested in what is going on in my life - it is just the sameo saneo. Went to pick up my check yesterday and they didn't have one for me and no one seemed to know why. What can I say without that money my family would have to share 2 $1 burgers from McDonalds - I only had 2 bucks until the end of the month. Well the good news is they paid me out of petty case so Thanksgiving is ON - Party Party Party

  3. Marie,
I love the name (my mothers). You remind me of myself. I am always in the same situations. House full of grand kids, no money, and guessing what going to happen next. I can tell that as I read your blogs, you will enlighten me, and make me laugh. Almost like those "Ramona Quimby" books. May the lord bless you with waelth and witt!!! Look forward to reading more of your blogs..Happy Thanksgiving

  6. I think I am going to do my final paper on fibromyalgia and how it has finally been accepted (mostly) as a real disease.

About the blog assignment I am truly disappointed at the number of people that have either only blogged once and some not at all. I try every week to post on everyone's blog site (which I can not do if they have not posted anything) mostly just idle chatter, a humours quote just to let everyone know I am out there and interested.

It is my opinion that this is a wonderful way for us to keep in contact, let everyone know how we are doing. We do not have day to day, or even week to week, contact especially person to person to connect and this is a way to do that.

I too like others wondered what this blog was all about but I have found it very fulfilling for lack of a better word. They say that a person shoud journal but I have never been able to do that, but I have grown to like blogging. It takes me out side myself, forces me to make contact even if it is vicariously. Anyway I hope you all will give it a try.

  8. UNIT 4 BLOG As a professional I must give credit where credit is due just as we would want people to give us credit for our work. When I cite my references it’s not just to credit the original author but to give validity to our work. I must also include the dates of references so that people may search for more recent information since the date of my paper. Plagiarism is dishonorable behavior.

What I would do if someone used my work with giving me proper credit would depend on the circumstances of the offense. If it was a co-worker or fellow student I would talk to them first and give them the opportunity to own up to the supervisor or professor. If there was no resolution I would then take the opportunity back and do the reporting to high personnel in my own hands.

There are instances throughout history of plagiarism by famous people. A rather recent incident in 1988 Delaware Senator Joe Biden quit the presidential race when it was discovered that he had stolen the words of a British politician. Also in current events Presidential Candidate Al Gore stated in an interview with Wolf Blitzer (CNN) claimed he had taken the initiative in creating the internet which subsequently (it is believed) that led to the down fall of his presidential bid. How should cases of professionals committing plagiarism be handled – in end they pay a very high price.
I’m not sure about the issue of “legally owned” but I do believe that everyone needs to investigate their sources carefully; all of the information out there on the net is not fact, just someone’s opinion or translation of the facts.

  9. It took me quite awhile to determine what my writing style was when I was in College Comp I. I read all the information and it was just so overwhelming so I decided to just sit down at the computer and start writing (we had a “thesis” to do); also know as free writing. It was amazing how really well the paper turned out; I even submitted it to the writing center and they did not make all that many changes. I tried outlining but with all the stuff running around in my head it was difficult to just write the high points. So free writing is my style.

The first thing I had to learn when I started with Kaplan was procrastination, in fact I think I got the Nobel Prize for Procrastination. Whenever I talk to someone who is interested in an on-line education I point out that there is no one standing over your shoulder telling you to do your school work. You really need to set yourself a schedule or like my mind you will be running around in circles.

  10. I would like to add that since I have done research in more depth that I am going to go out on a limb and for this project I am going to try the BRAINSTORMING method. It is my personal opinion that I am going to school to learn new things and expand my horizons; so it is time to step up to the plate and not rely on old patterns. REACH AND GROW!!!

  11. Thanks to your spirit of excellance of stepping out of the box. I went through the list of bloggers in our class. I really am getting the hang of this blogging, and found out I am enjoying communicating with others. It has become like therapy to me. Best in the New Year 2010.

  12. I have been a bit disappointed in the general lack of response to my (and probably everyones) blog. I was pleased with the 2 responses that I received and delighted to find they found blogging a great way to communicate with other students. I have found the process very theraputic (sort of like a journaling) and wish everyone in the class had embraced the process.

  13. The previous blog was for Unit 8 and this one is for Unit 6. I know a bit backwards but I think it has something to do with all the rain in Washington!
I think probably the only frutrating experience that I have had in my research is not so much the volume of information as the order in which I find it. My topic is fibromyalgia and mainly wanted my paper to reflect the history of diagnosis, misdiagnosis, treatment and finally being declared as a real disease. The suffering through all of those years of all those people is difficult to get personal experiences which I think would add credibility to my paper.

  14. Unit 7 Blog
I think peer review is an important part of the process. I know some of the questions that other students have asked me has added depth to my research and led me to new areas of research to answer those questions not just my paper but in the discussion boards.

My paper is on fibromyalgia and I didn't have an AH HA moment mine was more of an Oh My God when I found a case where Dr. Kevokian assisted a woman with suicide and teh comments of her father about her suffering.

I read several student's blogs and connected with Tina Waganfeald when she said that little was known about ADHD in the 70's and 80's, that is the thrust of my paper on fibromyalgia.

  16. It has been awhile since I posted on my blog but here is the most awesome news on the entire planet - My great grandson has 2 teeth (he is 5 months) and my great granddaugter has 2 teeth as well (she's 10 months old). I have been sitting at home waiting for ABC, NBC, CBS and CNN so they can report this fabulous information. Even the National Enquirer has come to report this earth shattering information.

  19. Well here I am back again. Yeah I met a couple of the cutest firemen and EMT's but the down side was they were doing CPR on ME!!!!It was a wild week I'm telling you - nothing perks you up like having a good looking fellow pounding the crap out of your chest. Good news I am now back in class, bad news LOTS of make up work to do.

  20. I wanted to add that the pictures of everyone's dogs are so cute. I don't have a dog but I have a cat that thinks shes a dog - does that count? She digs holes in the dirt and then lays in them. She loves to roll in the dirt in the middle of the apartment driveway and gets really excited when I take out the garbage all that's left is bite the mailman and chase cars!!!!

  21. Marie! How can you complain about meeting good looking men? What happened? The first time I ever visited Memphis, I had won an Elvis contest. First, a drawing at a local club gave me a chance at the final prize. In order to earn the final prize, I had to wallow in a dance floor full of jelly donuts (Elvis' fav, right?) blindfolded and find the jelly donut with the prize inside, all while the club audience is yellow and screaming. Well, I won a trip for two, airfare, Graceland tour, and two nights at the famous Peabody Hotel. My girlfriend went with me and we really lucked out because we were both divorced and looking at men. Memphis was hosting an International Convention of Firemen. We did have a very good time.

I will have to post a photo of my cat, who knows she is not a dog. Dogs do not sit on the top of the privacy fence. Dogs do not purr. Dogs do not mind their own business. Dogs do not clean themselves.

  22. Prof: You really sound like my kind of person - fun and on most occasions not embarassed. Why do our children expect us to act with decorum all the time - If I had done that my whole life they wouldn't be here. I am alot like my mother (bless her soul) if the band played happy birthday and no one stood up my mom would cause she did not want the band to feel bad. She was a real piece of work and lost her way too soon for me.
